If shooting, shredding, breaking necks, and dismembering demons as the Doom Slayer wasn’t enough, Bethesda has added some cosmetic DLC to add to your character in Doom Eternal. Problem is, it seems like they had assured players in the past, that they wouldn’t add this model to the game. Well, time has moved on, and business has moved in.
According to VGC, the two packs added to the game, the DOOMicorn Master Collection Cosmetic Pack, and the Series One Cosmetic Pack is available now for Xbox One, PS4, and PC, with the DOOmicorn priced at $8.99 and Series One priced at $4.99.
When Doom Eternal was close to its release, the Director of Creative Direction, Hugo Martin, responded to a Facebook comment by saying there would be “no store” in the game. He continued by saying “Nothing you can unlock in Doom Eternal with XP has anything to do with player abilities or content that would impact your game in anyway. The only thing you can unlock with XP is COSMETICS. These cosmetics have no impact on how you play, they just look cool.” He ended his comment by saying “Doom Eternal is a $60 game, not a free to play game or a mobile game – we are giving you a complete experience with no store — just like you’d expect. Unlocking skins with XP is a part of the experience if you care about that stuff or you can completely ignore it and it will have no impact on your experience AT ALL and it’s all free.”
At this time of writing, Bethesda hasn’t responded about this change but if they respond, we will update the story.
Will you purchases these new cosmetic packs? Why do you think they changed their business model? Let us know in the comments or on our Discord channel.
