The Tekken Online Challenge is coming back and the 2021 Challenge is set to begin on June 1.
Bandai Namco Esports made the announcement of the next big Tekken fighting tournament via their Twitter page. The Tekken Online Challenge Open Tournament series from Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc., along with production partner ten/o LLC, brings you an international online tournament series where the best compete for bragging rights in their region.
Taking place in 14 different regions worldwide, the Tekken Online Challenge is made up of 14 Online Master Events and 14 Regional Final Events. Territories announced include North America, Central America, South America, West Europe, East Europe, West Africa, South Africa, Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Philippines & East Asia, Oceania, Korea, and Japan. Details about the tournament’s scheduling along with the official rules are currently unavailable on the Tekken World Tour website. Bandai Namco Esports, also put out that we should be on the lookout for the first Masters Event starting in August.
Of special note from the trailer provided in the announcement is that there seems to be an implication that some events could end up transitioning as an offline event rather than an online one.
Having released in arcades in 2015 and then in 2017 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, Tekken 7, the current title of the franchise is currently on its fourth season expansion.
