Klei, the developer behind such indie classics like Mark of the Ninja, Don’t Starve, and Shank announced that their latest game, Griftlands, will release June 4 for PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.

Griftlands is a deck-building narrative RPG following three unique characters, each one with their own story paths. Although the main goals are always the same, the game will change with varying side quests or different NPCs that will be available through the story, who possibly take different roles from previous playthroughs. For example, if an NPC is your enemy in one playthrough, for the next playthrough they could be a friend helping you on your quest. It will also be the same deal with bosses, as not all bosses will be in the same sequence as the last playthrough.

Another unique gameplay method is that all fights can be handled peacefully or with those beautiful fists of yours. Both methods are driven by the unique deck-building card mechanics. Depending on your style of gameplay, you can choose which deck you want to build; and the more you play those cards, the stronger they will get. It doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t swap in between the two styles to find the right fit for you.

Like any card game, it all depends on having the right cards and a good deck for each situation; but the more you play certain cards, the stronger they will get. Playing and building your deck will be key to winning most matches and managing the right cards will be key to beating the game.

This game sounds like a mix between Monster Train and Undertale, which could be an interesting concept; and if you enjoyed either of those games, this could be a game to look forward to. Once again, Griftlands is available now for Steam and on the June 4 for consoles.
