After weeks of rumors and strategic teases, EA has finally revealed the latest title in their Battlefield series, Battlefield 2042, for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
This entry of the popular shooter franchise will take place in the near future with large scale battles and a focus on modern combat. While versions from previous generations will cap out at 64 player battles, players with current generation consoles or PCs will experience epic 128 player confrontations, large maps, and epic vehicle combat that the series is known for.
While there is no single player campaign, Battlefield 2042‘s CGI trailer revealed some story elements at play. Rising sea levels have created chaos throughout the world, causing what looks to be World War III. The trailer also showed off wing suits, dynamic weather, cool near-future weaponry, and even robot dogs (petting the dogs is yet to be determined). EA confirmed later that a full reveal will be coming Sunday, June 13, at the Xbox + Bethesda showcase.
It’s also worth noting that players with Xbox GamePass Ultimate and EA Play will get a ten hour long demo for the game and an additional ten percent off of the purchase price. This is certainly a major move for the franchise, as the last two entries, Battlefield 1 and Battlefield V, underwhelmed players with their World War I and II settings respectively. The Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC versions will cost MSRP $59.99 (USD) while Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 versions will cost ten dollars more. Battlefield 2042 releases on October 22, but players who pre-order the Gold ($99.99 USD) or the Ultimate ($119.99 USD) will get access one week early.
